Cosplay

If you're new here, let me briefly introduce you to cosplay. "Cosplay, short for "costume play", is a type of performance art whose participants outfit themselves, with often-elaborate costumes and accessories, as a specific character." But to me it's more than that. It's meeting new people... Challenging myself... And thanks to cosplay I get to live what I love. It can be very rewarding and let's face it - the cosplay community is the best :D So no wonder it's gained massive popularity in the recent years. People make insane creations, attend conventions, do photo shoots and simply have fun. I've been asked a few times about my "cosplaying". When did I start, why did I start and what costumes have I made? Here's my story.

I first discovered the cosplay world a while ago, I loooved seeing my favourite video game/film characters come to life and admired the craftsmanship of the cosplayers. Though it was a lot different "back in the day", the cosplay scene has grown so much, people's creations have gotten INSANELY good! It's amazing how some people are able to create absolutely stunning, well-detailed costumes out of nothing. And it was only a matter of time before I jumped on board :D

I've always focused on the final result (obviously) and never realised how much work there is behind every single creation... Until I made my first cosplay... I've made a few costumes for special events before, such as Halloween or carnivals, but I've never been to an actual convention. So I've decided to make a costume - it was Arcade Miss Fortune from League of Legends. I love that character aaaand I also got my first Pentakill playing her, so she's very close to my heart, haha.. in a way. It also looked super cool and easy to make, so I it was an easy choice.

Oh boy, how I was wrong. I bought some of the materials, thinking it will be easy. I actually found it really quite challenging! I had a picture in mind, of how I want to do it, but when I had the plain fabric lying flat in front of me, I just had no idea how to create something out of nothing. And it has been my biggest struggle since - I am quite imaginative, but to think of how to make it, that was something different. I've made many mistakes along the way, but I got there in the end and I have genuinely learnt SO MUCH! I enjoyed every single minute making it. There's something extremely satisfying about cosplaying. So my first convention was in August 2016. I finished my Arcade Miss Fortune on time and was intending to wear it, but... I was too shy and the morning before the convention, I decided NOT to cosplay and wear my casual clothes instead.......

My second costume was a Nord Warrior from Skyrim. I made this costume in September '16. I wanted to try making metal armour (you see, I like to try to be divergent when crafting, using various techniques and materials) and Skyrim is my favourite game of all time and I thought the armor looked super epic, especially when I saw a few cosplayers who created the armor and I just fell in love xD. It was a lot more straight forward and there was a few tutorials about making fake armor. It was made out of Craft foam (who knew you could make stuff look almost like real metal out of something we played with as kids!) and faux leather, suede and fur. It was so much fun to make and I'm quite happy with the result :3

Since I didn't dress up for my first convention, I was now determined to go to a second one in October 2016 and this time - cosplay! I wanted to create a new one. Somewhere I saw a picture of a female version of THOR from Avengers and it was an absolute yes-yes :D (I hope that's a phrase). Its design was a little trickier, combining different materials (I've never worked before) and since there was no actual reference, I had to make my own. I finished this costume in about two-three weeks in time for the convention, buuuuuuuut this time, since my friend turned it down last minute, I didn't want to go on my own... xD And here goes my second opportunity. I can't call myself cosplayer yet!!!

So that's all. You can see I'm still a cosplay noob, but here I am, creating things, challenging myself and most importantly having fun and meeting new people! And loving it! Thank you so much for reading this,
